about me

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
WHO AM I AND WHY SHOULD YOU GIVE A DAMN?
I’ve spent virtually my entire life in advertising, first as a designer and art director for small fashion agencies. Agencies that spawned a revolutionary dramatic look in print advertising and in editorial design. I designed ads and shot with many of the best photographers in the advertising business…Bert Stern, Art Kane, Richard Avedon, Gregory Heisler, Deborah Turbeville, Hiro, and Norman Parkinson.

Much later I joined N.W. Ayer Advertising, at the time one of the top ten agencies in the world, as an art director/writer/producer and finally Executive VP, director of creative services and a member of the board.
During my fifteen years at Ayer I created and produced dozens of award- winning commercials and ads for clients like AT&T, Burger King, 7UP with Geoffrey Holder as the Uncola Man and General Motors.
I worked with every major director around today; many of them crossover directors from film to TV and vice versa. From David Fincher to Joe Pytka.
I spent weeks in France with director John Frankenheimer doing a series of episodic commercials for AT&T with the French Bicentennial as a backdrop.

I was in Berlin, also for AT&T, the day the Wall came down and shot a moving emotional commercial interviewing people crossing into West Berlin for the first time. I also shot in the middle of the Mojave Desert with Francis Ford Coppola for GM.

SO WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH
“WHERE’RE WE GONNA EAT AND STAY?”

Once a bid was approved and we were off to a location anywhere in the world, these were the first words out of the mouths of my group. And, in order of priority, it was equally as important as the demands of shooting the commercial. For reasons unknown to me the job of choosing these places were assigned to me (obviously, I assume, because of my extreme good taste).
So this series of blogs are going to take you to some of the places I’ve shot in this country and around the world, the restaurants and hotels that I now think would please you and the advertising folks that depended on me.
In my new life as a retired former ad agency big shot, I am now very involved with my photography that just by chance you can see here and purchase, pleasing me a great deal.
